Hormann is the largest door and opener company in all of Europe.  As a family run business in Germany for generations, they truly believe in their company moto “A good reputation must be earned”.  They offer an incredibly high-quality product at an extremely enticing price point due to the advantages of having very high volume and the large use of automation.  They are manufactured and assembled in Germany.

The overall quality, fit, finish, and attention down to the smallest detail is incredible.  Especially when compared alongside other “North American companies” competitors (almost all other brands are actually manufactured or assembled in either China or Mexico).  There really is something with regards to the quality of products made in Germany and this garage door opener has the highest quality that we’ve ever seen.

Features

1 Security:  The garage door opener has a locking mechanism, with an actual latch and strike plate inside the rail assembly, so that it truly locks when closed.

2 Gentleness:  It features a composite aramid fiber reinforced belt versus just standard steel reinforced belts. This drive belt has the specially chosen characteristic of being very springy, in other words it doesn’t jerk or jar the door sharply but transmits force in a much gentler manner. This in turn provides less wear and tear upon both the door and opener.

3 Cleanliness:  The rail assembly is “enclosed” versus “exposed”.  This means the belt and trolley mechanism are enclosed by the rail and sheltered from dust and debris, thereby not getting nearly as dirty and grimy.  Also, the finish of the rail is very fine, with a high-quality fine galvanization versus merely an exposed, painted black rail. 

4 Intelligence:  Over time the Hormann operator “self-adjust” its closing and opening forces as the years go by to match the wear of the door.

5 Ingenuity:  Much easier to install, due to the mounting clamp that slides along the rail.  This allows for a cleaner looking install, as less convoluted installation options are not required when hanging the motor head.  It can mount to the ceiling anywhere within the last 1/3 length of the rail versus other manufacturers only being able to mount directly at the motor head.

6 Quality:  The most popular models in the N.A. marketplace have plastic gears internally that wear out.  This is an extremely common failure after about 10 years.  This simply doesn’t happen with Hormann openers.

7 Look & Feel:  You really do get what you pay for. As a simple example, merely look at the difference in the included hardware.  The Hormann bolts are beautifully plated and the nuts (nylocs) have nylon inside to keep from vibrating loose.  Other companies use cheap black oxide plating and split ring washers (often an insufficient quantity of bolts as well).  That is just an example, everything included has a quality difference, when you handle the 2 different operators you can see lots of differences.  The contrast in appearance from the high-quality finishing versus low quality finishes on the rails and motor head really add up.
